Love Goes On
By Brinn Wallin
time runs out eventually,
but love grows and grows.
when you already know
how deep that love goes,
not a clock
or a ticking time bomb
can stop
it from
blooming.
time will stand still someday,
the life we knew will pass us by.
we may be telling this with a sigh—
when our bodies are preparing to die—
a sigh of relief,
escaping with our final breath,
will set us free
from death
because love goes on.
poems may be written on pages,
but our love is etched in the trunk of my heart,
with roots whose lifetime has spanned for ages—
whether we’re side by side or far apart.
sunshine shaded by the leaves overhead
will not make our love wither dead;
storms may flood the soil beneath,
but a warm embrace is love’s firm sheath.
