Poem to My Unknown Love

By Brinn Wallin

Dear you,

Sincerely me…

pen and paper

connect when words are drawn

like swords.

let it be our love

you fight for.

letters dance

in a slow song

only known to certain tongues

like ours. the period marks

the final coda

between us.

syllables swing

with arms linked

to form unbreakable bonds

like atoms.

chemically glued together

in the bodice

of language.

interjections sit

with tension

between the two of us

like bridges.

distances covered

by the simple structures

of a nexus.

prefixes start

and suffixes end,

but you live within me

like an affix.

fastened with

the invisible string

of meaning.

to read and write

is to understand

the words of another,

like we do.

so I write to you,

my love,

my poem.
